| What's New in 2011 In Keeping with SYB league philosophy to maximize the playing experience for the largest number of participants of all playing abilities, SYB will be making certain adjustments to the league's baseball structure and placement guidelines in 2011. These changes have been formed by a review of common practices by surrounding Little League programs, parental feedback received through the SYB survey and careful review and consideration by the SYB Board of Directors and The 2nd year of T-Ball for 6 year old players has been eliminated. A 2nd year of AA ball has been added to provide more opportunities for our younger players to play "real baseball" (ages 8 and 9). Automatic "play up" based on prior summer team status has been eliminated at all levels. Except for 12 year old players (as of April 30, 2011) or 6th graders who have not yet reached baseball age 12 (each of whom will be automatically eligible), all other 5th graders and/or baseball age 10 & 11 year old players will only be selected to Majors through a Spring Tryout process (details to follow in a future communication). 13 - 15 year old players will play in the "495 Babe Ruth League" with Marlborough, Westborough, and Northborough. Participating boys will play a 18 game schedule and be organized into a 13 year old "prep" league and a 14/15 year old "senior league" (see www.495baberuth.org for additional details on this new opportunity for our older players). In light of league structure changes in baseball noted above, we will conduct a review of local playing rules and guidelines to ensure that the level of play and competitiveness is appropriate for the ages and skills of all participants at all league levels. Thank you for your interest in Southborough Youth Baseball. |
