Southborough Youth Baseball and Softball
Spring Season Overview

SYB provides over 600 boys and girls ages 5 through 16 with the opportunity to learn and develop
their baseball and softball skills in an inclusive spring program that aims to provide a fun and exciting
youth sports experience for players of all abilities.  Our program is a chartered member of Little
League Baseball and works hard to perpetuate the values of fair play and sportsmanship that is the
foundation of Little League.

Spring Baseball

This season, we look forward to our continued minor league structure where players from age 7 to
10 are organized into 3 levels (A, AA, and AAA) to provide players of all abilities the opportunity to
develop their baseball skills and knowledge in a developmental program that prepares players for
more competitive play in future years.  In this structure, players progress from “A” ball, a purely
developmental coaches pitch league to “AA” ball, which introduces kid pitching while continuing to
focus heavily on overall skill development, to “AAA” ball which continues to have a developmental
focus, but introduces players to game rules that more closely approximate standard Little League
playing rules that players will experience in future years.

Our Major League program provides players age 11 and 12 with the opportunity to continue their
development in a more competitive environment.  The Major League regular season is followed by
an exciting playoff round.

Players age 13 and 14 play in Junior League while those 15 and 16 play in Senior League.   Our
spring Junior and Senior league teams play in a competitive and fun environment vs. other
Southborough teams and teams from surrounding communities.

Spring Softball
SYB looks forward to continuing the development of our softball program through improved league
structure, additional developmental opportunities for all league levels, more play against area towns,
and an expanded partnership with the Algonquin High School Softball team to assist in the
development of our younger players.

Specifically, we are continuing a new fourth level of softball play to more closely align the skills and
ages of 1st through 8th grade girls.  We are also expanding our partnerships with Northborough and
Westborough and plan to offer inter-town game play for girls in 3rd through 8th grade.  In addition,
our partnership with the Algonquin High School Softball team will enable us to provide several
opportunities for skill instruction to our younger softball players.
